Setup an ongoing maintenance infrastructure for your Mac OS X workstations.

Course Description

This one day Radmind Client/Server course is designed for system administrators and IT professionals who need to gain specific knowledge about Radmind 1.0 running under Mac OS X v10.4, how to  effectively configure Mac OS X computers to access a Radmind server, and how to configure a Radmind server under Mac OS X. This course is a combination of lecture and hands-on case study exercises that provide practical real-world experience. Each student will be equipped with two Mac OS X capable computers and a private network for setting up and testing Radmind.

This class is for administrators who are tasked with configuring and maintaining computers running Mac OS X  

Prerequisites

Students should have the following prerequisite knowledge prior to attending this course:

  • Completion of Mac OS X Support Essentials v10.4 and Mac OS X Server Essentials v10.4, or equivalent knowledge
  • Understanding of basic IP networking, including IP adress, subnet masks, ports, and protocols
  • Working familiarity with the command line interface

How to configure Mac OS X to update itself with services provided by a Mac OS X based Radmind server

How to add or remove OS updates or applications to Mac OS X machines using Radmind Assistant

Best practices for automating Radmind using LoginHook and scripts

How to troubleshoot common problems with radmind implementations

How to manage a radmind server using Transcript Editor, Radmind Server Manager and the Terminal

Understanding the suite of software programs that make up Radmind

Chapter 2
Setting up the Radmind Server
Configuration and setup of Mac OS X to act as a Radmind Server.

Chapter 3
Setting up the base machine and Radmind on the client.
Configuring Mac OS X computers to access a Radmind server provided by Mac OS X.

Chapter 4
Negative Transcripts and uploading the base load.
Preparing your client machine for radmind and creation of the base load.

Chapter 5
Creating an update loadset

Understanding how to configure Radmind Assistant to create a loadset that will update the base load.


Chapter 6
Creating a loadset without using fsdiff

Understand how to create a loadset using only Transcript Editor and Radmind Assistant

Chapter 7
Troubleshooting common problems with radmind

Discussion and exercises for troubleshooting common problems with radmind including upload failure and transcript errors.

Chapter 8
Testing the loadsets

Trigger radmind using the radmind user and loginhook. Change the command file and re-run radmind to remove loadsets.
