Course Description

Mac OS X Fundamentals is a one-day, hands-on course that provides an intensive exploration of Mac OS X. This course is designed to give you a tour of the breadth of functionality of Mac OS X and the best methods for maximizing your productivity of Mac OS X systems. The course is a combination of lectures and hands-on case study exercises that provide practical real-world experience.

Who should attend?

This class is for those who are new to Mac OS X, or have recently switched from Windows. Even technical administrators that are familiar with advanced concepts can greatly benefit from learning the basic navigation mechanics and shortcuts that will thelp them accomplish fundamental tasks that are completely different in Windows XP or Vista.

Students should have the following prerequisite knowledge prior to attending this course:

	Basic Mac OS X terminology. Learn the terms the support pros use so when you need help you can describe it clearly and succinctly.
	Mac OS X v10.5 features, including how to find additional information
	How to use keyboard shortcuts and menus to boost your productivity in Mac OS X.

Chapter 2 Basic Navigation	How to use the Finder and the dock. Basic window manipulation, use of the toolbars, sidebar and Desktop.

Chapter 3 Customizing the look of your Mac	Learn to set when your computer and screen go to sleep, change the desktop, screen saver and other custom settings including printing

Chapter 4 Internet and Networking	Learn Safari basics, bookmarks, pop-up blocking, tabbed browsing, and how to access a wireless network

Chapter 5 Users Management	How to create and manage additional users. Fast user switching. Parental Controls. Security best practices.

Chapter 6 Sharing files with users on your Mac	File sharing and permissions basics

Chapter 7 Working with Applications, documents and printing	Work with more than one application at a time, share information between applications and use Exposé to work more efficiently. Use spotlight to find your important documents.

Chapter 8 Software update, backup, shutdown	Keep your Mac secure with software updates and find more information on the web. An introduction to Time Machine. Learn how to make a backup to DVD or CD
